The Philadelphia Phillies (42-48, 4th NL East) split their series against the Colorado Rockies before the end of the first half of the season while the New York Mets (47-41, 2nd NL East) lost three of four games to the Nationals in the same time frame. Now the Phillies, who are still 12 games out, have the opportunity to gain some ground on the second place Mets.
The starting pitcher for the Phillies will be Jeremy Hellickson (6-6, 3.92 ERA) who’s stock has risen because his pitching has gotten better. It’s no secret that the veteran could be up for a trade if the price is right. Starting for the Mets will be Bartolo Colon who had trouble against the Nationals giving up six runs in a little over four innings.
